An era can be said to end when its basic illusions are exhausted.

Helsinki, 20 degrees

This sunny Wednesday I enjoyed a work welfare day at work at one of Helsinki's most beautiful islands called Seurasaari. This island is unique since it has both Finnish forest on it, as well as an open air museum showcasing rural wooden houses from the 18th century. It was such a fun day, I really enjoyed it!

Lately I've been fascinated with the 20's theme that I keep on running into. I've always been in love with this particular era, as I'm sure all girly girls are thanks to the amazing dresses and accessories there were then. I already talked about this obsession in my earlier post here. This fall the 20's will be on everybody's lips since the awaited movie "The Great Gatsby" will have its premiere. This is one of the movies I'm waiting the most for this fall, how about you?

I also found this beautiful editorial called "Cat's Meow" presenting stunning 20's themed outfits!

There is hope in dreams, imagination, and in the courage of those who wish to make those dreams a reality.

Helsinki, 18 degrees

I've been meaning to show you some pictures from a week ago when I went to see one of the stunning buildings that we have here in Helsinki. This one, called the Iron House, is usually not open for public, so I was in for a treat when I saw it with some of my friends. This was one of the events that we've had here this year thanks to the fact that we are the World Design Capital. The event was called Helsinki Design Open and showed not only the beautifully designed building, but also some Finnish design items - my favorite being the cute wish boxes and the pulsating lamps that kept on moving all the time. The building itself is known for the fact that it is designed by our most famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, have you heard about him?

Urban cowgirl

Helsinki, 20 degrees

If you climb in the saddle, be ready for the ride.

One of you dear readers asked for it, so here it comes - the result after my visit to the hairdresser yesterday! I'm sorry to say that there is not that much of a change from before, no radical haircut or anything like that, just a check up on my process getting blonder. Since I've started out with black hair, I think I've done quite well. I just cut the tops of my hair, about 2cm, and put some more highlights in my hair. I'm really happy with the result.

Today seeing as it's a hot and dry day I got inspired by the rodeo style I've been seeing lately in Elle Finland magazine. Lately I've updated my autumnal warderobe with some burgundy velvet pants from H&M and a flowery shirt from Vila. My urban cowboy look is complete! I feel like a rose of the prairie!

Happy weekend to all of you dear readers! What will you be up to?

2012 hair trends

Helsinki, 18 degrees

You're only as good as your last haircut.

Dear readers, I'm again faced with a dilemma - I'm going to the hairdresser this Friday! Please help me with haircut and hairstyle ideas!? I really appreciate all your comments and ideas! I want to keep my hair long, but maybe color it even lighter? Are gradient hair colors still yey or nay?

What shall I do with my hair this fall??

Of all the days that's in the week, I dearly love but one day - Monday.

Helsinki, 15 degrees

Another manic Monday. It felt like the whole day went to running from one place to another. To cheer you, and me, up on this Monday, I thought I would share these stunning photos I found on Fashionising. These are from Neiman Marcus fall/winter 2012 campaign. Aren't they just dreamy? I think daydreaming is a great way to get through Mondays, how about you?

Dragonfly jewelry

Helsinki, 18 degrees

Clouds of insects dance and buzz in the golden autumn light.

This rainy but yet relaxing Sunday I've been spending some quality time with my loved one. We've eaten good and had a wonderful time together. It's so lovely to have time to enjoy each other's company, and make common future plans.

One of you dear readers asked me about what kind of dragonfly related jewelry I have so I thought I would answer her in pictures instead of merely words. I love getting post ideas from you readers so if there's something you've been wondering about, please don't hesitate to ask!

My dragonfly jewelry collection consists of brooches, earrings and necklaces.

I especially like these one ear earrings, they're so unique! And the necklace in form of a single dragonfly wing is so precious! You can see more pictures of that particular necklace in my earlier blog post here.

These are all pieces that I have got as presents. I really appreciated when a five-year-old girl made me the one in the upper right corner, aaw!

How has your Sunday been?

Love prefers twilight to daylight, and an overflow of turbulent emotions.

Helsinki, 18 degrees

Happy Saturday everybody! This week has been hectic at work, and I've also done a lot on my free time (I'll fill you in on that in posts to come), and as I've noticed before - when life gets too busy, I tend to start to forget things and make mistakes. It's not nice to notice one's imperfections, but unfortunately it's a part of life. Therefore I've promised myself to slow down a little bit next week, and try to keep more things on a string.

This week I've been influenced by Valentino's romantic spring collection since I've been delighted by some very romantic pink skies in Helsinki lately! I think music is at least as inspirational as pictures, so when I found this medley of beautiful, romantic, inspiring and relaxing music, I thought I wanted to share it with you, to get you into the right mood!

It's time to head to the beach. The wind blows through your hair. The warm sun bathes your skin. Soft golden sand caresses your feet. The waves sing to a perfect rhythm.

Helsinki, 20 degrees

Yet another sunny and beautiful day in Helsinki. The sun is shining, the sky is blue. What more can one ask for? I spent yesterday afternoon at the beach catching up on my reading...

Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.

Helsinki, 19 degrees

This is how my Sunday looked in photos. I spent this lazy Sunday visiting my sister and spending time with my loved one! I wore one of my favorite dresses, a retro dress from Indiska that I've found at a flea market. My sister lives in one of Helsinki's hippest areas called Punavuori, the same area where you find Helsinki Design District, with over 200 design actors! Are you familiar with that area?

A girl without freckles is like a night without stars.

This chilly Wednesday I've been a part of the filming of a Norwegian talk show in Helsinki. It's been lots of fun, I'll tell you all about it in an upcoming post. I was told by the Norwegians I met today that I have cute freckles. I started thinking about how wonderful freckles truly are - the more, the better if you ask me. I'm crazy about the ones that come out thanks to the sun - a clear sign of summer!

My freckles are exactly like that - they visit me only in the summer.

How about you? What do you think about them - do you have a hate or love relationship?

Post-vacation work

Helsinki, 20 degrees

Being back at work stands for me among other things presentations about Helsinki. Yesterday I held a presentation for 80 Korean students that will be on study exchange here. This is how the presentation looked like! It's so easy to talk about Helsinki as a relaxed, inspiring and fun place thanks to the fact that that is truly what it is!

No woman or man needs a vacation so much as the person who has just had one!

After being on vacation, and spending a lot of time relaxing in tranquility, it's always exciting getting back to the busy city life Helsinki has during August. August is one of our most busy months, and this summer we just might have a record concerning visitors, yey!

The first two days back at the office I got to spend still in quite quiet surroundings as I helped in planning programs for journalists visiting Helsinki, but since today I'm back at the Tourist Information which gets busy with its 2 000 - 2 500 clients per day! I must say that my wonderful colleagues and the clients made my day perfect - it felt homey being back after doing other work duties for six months (the brochure I helped realize that I've mentioned in my blog post here and here, and assisting in planning journalist visits that I've mentioned in my earlier blog post here, here and here), and every client was super nice to me! I feel lucky by having tourists as my clients since working with them is a true everyday culture exchange and one learns something new every day!

I just have to share with you also the article that the Italian journalist of Marie Claire made about Helsinki! I'm so proud of it! I had the pleasure to meet her for dinner and help her with giving information about the city when she was visiting Helsinki!

Isn't it amazing??
